Portable Camping Stoves For Cooking Outdoors
A true camping experience is one where you have to “rough it”, so to speak. You don’t have all the comforts of home — no TV, bathroom and shower, a soft bed and all the other conveniences. But many people find camping a very rewarding experience; they do it again and again. In fact, many go on annual camping trips. Camping will put your hardiness to the test but the best part of it is that you get to enjoy the outdoors.
Of course, camping isn’t complete without a campfire, and if you’re spending several nights in the outdoors, you will need to have the camping equipment for cooking and warming you up. Be aware that there are campsites that ban making fires in pits, so campers need to bring with them the necessary equipment for cooking and heating.
Thanks to modern technology, there are plenty of portable camping stoves and heaters that campers can take with them. Most campers bring with them propane stoves, but other types of fuel are available and used for camping. You will find camping stoves that burn not just propane but white gas or butane as well.
And there are some stoves that will burn kerosene and unleaded gasoline even, although these should only be a camper’s last choice. This is because kerosene and unleaded gasoline produce an unpleasant odor when they are burned, and besides, they are not really safe, especially when you use them for cooking food. If you have no option but to use unleaded gasoline as fuel for cooking, make sure you don’t spill any of it on your skin. Limit its use to just boiling water, except during emergencies.
Propane and butane are the two most commonly used fuel for camping stoves, although propane is perhaps a lot more common than butane. Propane, however, is becoming more an more expensive over the years. Compared to liquid fuels, propane doesn’t produce much heat. White gas (or Coleman fuel) is a clean-burning fuel, and it produces the most heat, but it is much more expensive than the other types of fuel.
There are duel fuel stoves available, allowing you to put two different fuel types in twin containers, although you can fill the containers with just one type of fuel. As for the canisters, they are available in different sizes: 5 gallons, 10 gallons, and so on. A 10-gallon fuel container is usually adequate for most camping trips. This size container is approximately 10 inches tall and 10 inches in diameter. The larger fuel containers are bulky and hard to transport, unless you’re camping in an RV and you have it attached there with a hose and connector. It’s a good idea to have more than one fuel containers; a small container is easy and light to carry if you’re going on a short camping trip while a large container can come in handy if you’re cooking for several people.
Two-burner stoves are popular among many campers because they are convenient. You can cook for two people or even two different kinds of food at the same time in a two-burner stove. If you bring those special cooking pots with you, you’re all set. You can stack these pots on top of each other and cook in them simultaneously.
Two-burner stoves, live fuel canisters, come in varying sizes. There are two-burner stoves with a large grill, allowing you to make eggs, pancakes, hamburgers and other types of foods that need some space for preparing them. There are camping stoves that fit in a backpack, and naturally, they are designed for preparing small meals. If you’re camping alone, a small stove is perfect.
If you’re going camping in a commercial campsite, check to see if there are any cooking facilities there. Most State and National parks don’t have these facilities, though, so it pays to plan for your camping trip and find out if you will need to bring a portable camping stove with you.
